Job Description: Wetland Scientist
Position Overview:
The Wetland Scientist will be responsible for conducting research, analysis, and assessments related to wetland ecosystems. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental science, specifically wetland ecology and conservation. The Wetland Scientist will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate wetland health, develop mitigation plans, and provide expertise in wetland restoration projects. Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a passion for environmental preservation are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct field surveys and assessments to identify wetland types, boundaries, and characteristics.
2. Evaluate wetland functions and provide expert advice on wetland management and conservation strategies.
3. Perform wetland delineations, assess wetland impacts, and propose mitigation measures for development projects.
4. Collect and analyze data on wetland vegetation, hydrology, soils, and wildlife populations.
5. Prepare detailed wetland reports, including findings, recommendations, and mitigation plans, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
6. Collaborate with environmental engineers, hydrologists, and other professionals to design and implement wetland restoration projects.
7. Monitor and evaluate wetland restoration activities, including vegetation establishment, hydrological modifications, and wildlife habitat improvements.
8. Stay updated on current research and regulatory guidelines related to wetland preservation and restoration.
9. Provide technical support and guidance to project teams regarding wetland-related issues.
10. Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with wetland regulations and permit requirements.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Wetland Scientist or in a related role.
3. In-depth knowledge of wetland ecosystems, including wetland classification, hydrology, and plant and animal communities.
4. Proficiency in conducting wetland delineations using state and federal methodologies.
5. Familiarity with wetland mitigation planning, restoration techniques, and regulatory guidelines.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex environmental data.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
8. Experience working with GIS software and other environmental analysis tools.
9. Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work.
